When doing a Destination Wedding in Cancun or the Riviera Maya, you can opt for a symbolic or a civil marriage, with legal validity in Mexico. The requirements to perform a civil wedding in Mexico vary from one location to another. The requirements also vary in case the spouses are of different nationalities.
Below we present you the basic requirements requested by the City Council of Puerto Morelos to perform civil weddings in the State of Quintana Roo.
MARRIAGE BETWEEN MEXICANS:
1.- Marriage application.
2.- Protest letter from both contracting parties.
3.- Birth certificate of both spouses.
4.- CURP of both contracting parties.
5.- Identification of both parties (INE or valid passport).
6.- Prenuptial analysis of V.D.R.L., H.I.V. and R.H. certified by a doctor with signature, seal and professional license (15 days of validity from its issuance).
7.- Pre-nuptial medical certificate for each spouse specifying that she does not suffer from any chronic and incurable disease, which is also contagious and hereditary.
8.- Copy of valid identification of 4 adult as witnesses.
9.- If they are divorced, submit the certificate.
MARRIAGE BETWEEN MEXICANS AND FOREIGNERS:
1.- Marriage application.
2.- Protest letter from both contracting parties.
3.- Birth certificate of both spouses.
(For the foreign spouse: birth certificate apostilled or legalized and translated into Spanish by an authorized expert of the superior court of justice). If you do not have a birth certificate, data will be taken only from the passport.
4.- CURP of the Mexican spouse.
5.- Identification of the Mexican spouse (INE or valid passport).
6.- Prenuptial analysis of V.D.R.L., H.I.V. and R.H. certified by a doctor with signature, seal and professional license. (15 days of validity from its issuance).
7.- Pre-nuptial medical certificate for each spouse specifying that they do not suffer from any chronic and incurable disease, which is also contagious and hereditary.
8.- Valid passport of foreign spouse.
9.- Copy of valid identification of 4 adult as witnesses.
10.- If they are widowed or divorced, submit the certificate.
MARRIAGE BETWEEN FOREIGNERS
1.- Marriage application.
2.- Protest letter from both contracting parties.
3.- Birth certificate of both spouses.
